Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia upset No. 7 seed Lucia Bronzetti of Italy 6-3, 6-4 to reach the final of the Jasmin Open Tunisia on Saturday in Monastir, Tunisia.

Sramkova, 27, will face Sonay Kartal of Great Britain, who advanced to Sunday’s final when Eva Lys of Germany retired due to illness. The 22-year-old Kartal was leading 5-1 in the first set at the time. Neither Sramkova nor Kartal had previously reached a WTA final.

Sramkova opened the match on a positive note, breaking Bronzetti’s serve, but the Italian player returned the favor to take a 3-2 lead in the first set. Sramkova again broke Bronzetti to take a 4-3 lead and clinched the set with a third break of Bronzetti’s serve.

Bronzetti turned the tables in the second set, breaking Sramkova to take a 1-0 lead, but Sramkova broke her opponent twice more, including the match-clinching point.

With semifinal victories, No. 5 seed Magdalena Frech of Poland will meet Australian Olivia Gadecki in Sunday’s final of the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Frech outlasted No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia of France 7-6 (4), 7-5, while Gadecki had an easier time as she cruised past Camila Osorio of Colombia 6-2, 6-3.

Advancing to her second WTA final, Frech saved set points in the first set and came back from a double break down in the second set. The 26-year-old, who trailed 3-0 in both sets, saved 8 of 12 break points and overcame Garcia’s seven aces.

Gadecki, who is in her first WTA final, took control in the first set with a forehand angle crosscourt to break for a 4-2 lead. She won the last four games of the set and didn’t face a break point in the set. She saved 4 of 5 break points in the match and stared down two break points while serving for the win.
