American Madison Keys announced Saturday that she has withdrawn from Wimbledon due to an abdominal injury.

Keys, seeded 19th, was slated to play her first-round match on Monday.

“This isn’t what I was hoping to say a few days before @Wimbledon, but unfortunately I have to withdraw due to an abdominal injury,” Keys wrote on Twitter. “I’m so disappointed, but my health comes first and my body needs time to get back to 100%. Lots of love London fans. See you next year.”

Keys, 27, was replaced in the field by CoCo Vandeweghe, another American. Vandeweghe had failed to make the field through qualifying earlier this week.

Vandeweghe will play 17th-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

Vandeweghe, 30, hasn’t enjoyed much success since sustaining a serious ankle injury in 2018 but she is a two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist (2015, 2017).
