Ta’Niya Latson dropped 30 points and Makayla Timpson added 20 points and 14 rebounds to push No. 22 Florida State past Georgia Tech 95-80 in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams Friday in Tallahassee, Fla.
Latson made 12 of her 24 shots to power the Seminoles’ 50.6 percent shooting performance, and O’Mariah Gordon chipped in with 17 points and seven assists. Florida State (10-3, 1-0 ACC) broke away from a tie at 550 in the third quarter with a 9-0 run and never looked back.
Kara Dunn hit 10 of 16 shots to lead Georgia Tech (9-4, 0-1) with 24 points, and Kayla Blackshear added 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting.
No. 9 Stanford 78, Cal 51
Talana Lepolo shot 6-of-10 from 3-point range en route to 20 points and six assists to help the Cardinal tackle the host Golden Bears in Berkeley, Calif.
Stanford (11-1, 1-0 Pac-12) also got 16 points and 10 rebounds from Kiki Iriafen and 13 points and seven boards from Cameron Brink. The Cardinal held the rival Golden Bears (10-3, 0-1) to just 18-of-68 shooting (26.5 percent), including 4-of-31 (12.9 percent) from long range.
Ioanna Krimili scored 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench for Cal, which had a three-game winning streak come to an end.
