WNBA: Sparks re-sign 2-time All-Star Chiney Ogwumike

The Los Angeles Sparks have re-signed Chiney Ogwumike, the two-time All-Star confirmed Wednesday.

Ogwumike, 30, averaged 7.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 26 games (seven starts) with the Sparks in 2022.

The 6-foot-3 forward/center was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun.

Ogwumike will be reunited with new Sparks coach Curt Miller, who previously coached her in Connecticut.

“I am motivated an inspired for this season to mark a new chapter for the Sparks and me,” Ogwumike said. “Reuniting with Curt, the coach that helped me be an All-Star in 2018, who knows my fight and journey on the court, means the world to me.

“… I don’t take for granted the opportunity to wear the purple and gold and will leave it all on the court this season.”

Ogwumike owns career averages of 11.8 points and 6.7 boards in 160 games (104 starts) with the Sun (2014, 2016, 2018) and Sparks (2019, 2021-22).
