Wrexham will be without striker Paul Mullin and wing-back James McClean for Saturday’s match against Gillingham after the pair received one-game suspensions for accumulating five yellow cards.

Mullin, 29, has started all nine league games since returning from a punctured lung and four cracked rubs suffered during the club’s preseason tour in America. He scored in last Saturday’s win at Mansfield Town in the first round of the FA Cup and came off the bench in Tuesday’s win over Port Vale in the EFL Trophy.

“I am devastated, I want to play every game and help the lads as much as I can,” Mullin said, per The Leader. “It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have got booked so much but you get booked for anything you do these days.

“If I breathe on someone I get booked. It is something I have learned since I’ve come back from the injury.

“When I do get back in the team after the suspension, I will try not to get booked just for asking the referee about a decision.”

Wrexham is also expected to be without midfielder Andy Cannon, who left the second half of the Port Vale match with a knee injury.

The club is riding a 10-match unbeaten streak across all competitions and sits in third place in the League Two standings. With 30 points, Wrexham is behind only Stockport County (35) and rival Notts County (30), which has nine match wins to Wrexham’s eight.

Gillingham enters the match in ninth place.

“I miss this league game now but we have got brilliant players in the squad, someone is going to take my place and if they do well then I might find it hard to get back in,” Mullin said. “Then it is up to me to go and impress again.”
