In the first of its two matches on Monday, Atlanta Drive GC scored a 6-5 comeback victory in overtime over Los Angeles Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Patrick Cantlay’s chip proved the difference as Atlanta moved into second in the SoFi Cup standings with four points. Los Angeles remains in first, gaining one point in the overtime loss to give the team five points.

With Los Angeles leading 5-4 at the 15th hole — the par-5 Quick Draw — Atlanta’s Justin Thomas sent the match into overtime with a birdie after duffing a chip on his third shot.

“Getting beat is one thing, but I didn’t want to lose,” said Thomas, who beat Sahith Theegala on the hole. “I didn’t want to hand that over to them, and I felt like I would have done that if I didn’t chip in. So, I was glad the hole got in the way.”

Atlanta used its third and final Hammer on the 13th hole, where Billy Horschel sank a birdie to defeat Justin Rose and close the gap to 5-4 with two holes to play. Per the rules, each team begins the round with three Hammers that it can use any time during the match.

Cantlay nearly tied the match on the par-3 14th with a tap-in birdie after a strong tee shot, but Tommy Fleetwood’s 17-footer down the slope forced a tie.
