GREENSBORO, N.C. — The first round of the Wyndham Championship was postponed Thursday due to dangerous conditions and heavy rainfall related to Tropical Storm Debby.

The PGA Tour announced the second schedule adjustment late in the morning after previously delaying the start. The plan is for the 156-player field to begin the tournament on Friday at Sedgefield Country Club.

There were numerous flash-flood warnings issued overnight, forcing the closure of all facilities at the course. Rain didn’t let up and conditions worsened, with some parts of the course underwater.

Tour and tournament officials announced Wednesday that spectators wouldn’t be allowed at the venue Thursday because of safety concerns.

The Wyndham Championship is the final regular-season tournament on the PGA Tour schedule. Based on results from the tournament, the final field of 70 golfers is determined for the FedExCup playoffs that begin next week.
