Wyatt Tinsley earned his first career eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series victory, taking the checkered flag after overtime on Tuesday at a virtual Daytona International Speedway.
The race was the season opener for the series. Tinsley won eNASCAR’s year-open Clash exhibition two weeks ago, also at a virtual Daytona.
On Tuesday, Tinsley passed Bobby Zalenski on the final lap, then held off Steven Wilson to secure the win.
Tinsley, from Hampton, Va., drove the No. 20 Toyota to a 0.054-second victory over Wilson’s No. 10 Ford.
“It feels amazing, man,” Tinsley said postrace. “I’m out of breath. I’m so ecstatic, man. …
“The Clash was honestly just a big learning experience going into this race.”
Wilson, the reigning series champion from Iowa City, said of his runner-up effort, “I was trying to help Wyatt there pretty much the whole last run. We’re setup teammates, so the goal was to try to get one of us into Victory Lane, and we did a good job with that one-two (finish).”
Malik Ray came in third place in the No. 7 Chevrolet, and Casey Kirwan took fourth in the No. 77 Chevrolet. Zalenski wound up fifth in the No. 18 Toyota.
The series’ next race will be held Feb. 27 at a virtual Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
