The Seattle Reign stole a point from host NJ/NY Gotham FC when an own goal in the final seconds of the match led to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon in Harrison, N.J.

In a rematch of last year’s NWSL championship won by Gotham, Rose Lavelle scored early in the second half and Gotham were about to escape with their latest win when the Reign earned one more set piece in the ninth and final minute of second-half stoppage time.

Reign midfielder Quinn sent a long free kick toward the box, and Gotham defender Nealy Martin accidentally headed it over the outstretched glove of her goalkeeper, Ann-Katrin Berger.

The Reign (2-9-4, 10 points) got their first point on the road of the season. They were previously 0-7-0. Claudia Dickey made four saves for Seattle.

Ella Stevens had an assist and Berger made four saves for Gotham (8-3-4, 28 points).

After an uneventful first half, NJ/NY broke through in the 47th minute.

Jenna Nighswonger sent a pass up ahead to Stevens, whose defender missed her attempt to deflect the ball away. Wide open on the left side of the box, Stevens centered it to Lavelle, and her chip shot found the net as Dickey dove the opposite way.

Seattle came inches away from tying it in the 71st. Veronica Latsko ran up the right side, cut behind her defender and passed to Sofia Huerta. Huerta’s shot hit off the inside of the left post, then bounced off the opposite post. Berger swallowed up Bethany Balcer’s attempt on the rebound.
