Racing Louisville acquired defender Courtney Petersen from the Houston Dash in exchange for $45,000 in allocation money on Friday.

Petersen, 26, won’t join Racing in time for their home game Saturday night against the Seattle Reign. She is expected to start training in Louisville next week as the team prepares for a match against Bay City in San Jose next Saturday.

“I’m extremely grateful to be joining Racing,” Petersen said. “I’m excited to be able to play with this amazing group of players and be a part of what (coach) Bev (Yanez) and the club are building. I’m truly blessed to have this opportunity to play for the city of Louisville, and I’m excited to play in front of the amazing fans at Lynn Family Stadium. See you all soon!”

With a 3-1 win over the visiting Chicago Red Stars on Aug. 24, Racing moved into playoff position in eighth place. In the club’s four-year history, it has yet to qualify for the postseason.

“We are excited to bring Courtney to our squad,” Yanez said. “Her experience in league and skill sets are attributes we are so looking forward to adding to our roster as we continue to push for the playoffs.”

Petersen, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 Draft by the Orlando Pride, spent three seasons with the Pride before joining the Dash before the 2023 season.

In her fifth NWSL season, Petersen has one goal and six assists in 70 appearances (48 starts). She played in 16 games (12 starts) for the Dash this season.
