Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon will miss the rest of the season and undergo two surgeries in the coming weeks, the team announced Thursday.

Spurgeon will have surgery on his left hip on Feb. 6, the Wild said in a news release, followed by back surgery four weeks later.

Spurgeon, Minnesota’s captain, is expected to be ready for the start of training camp ahead of the 2024-25 season.

The 34-year-old had not played since Jan. 2. He sustained an upper-body injury during a preseason game and did not make his season debut till Nov. 10.

Spurgeon had five assists while averaging 23:20 of ice time over 16 games this season. In 867 career games — all with the Wild — Spurgeon has 384 points (110 goals, 274 assists).
