With the game tied at 2-2, Boston won an offensive-zone faceoff and McAvoy fed a pass to Coyle, who fired a shot from in between the faceoff circles past Detroit goalie Alex Lyon with 16:08 remaining.

Detroit pulled Lyon with a little less than 2:30 remaining in the game, but Jake DeBrusk scored an empty-net goal with 2:01 left to give Boston a 4-2 lead.

Detroit was awarded a power play with 1:30 remaining and pulled Lyon again to create a 6-on-4 situation. The Red Wings capitalized when Compher banged home a rebound with 1:22 left to make it 4-3 Bruins.

The Red Wings again pulled Lyon, but Boston sealed the game on an empty-net goal by Pavel Zacha with 24 seconds left.

Boston took a 1-0 lead with 51.8 seconds left in the first period on a goal by Frederic, who skated in alone on the Detroit goal and placed a backhand shot underneath the crossbar.

With 15:35 left in the second period, Frederic scored again to make it 2-0 Bruins after he fired a wrist shot from the top of the right circle in between Lyon’s pads.

Detroit cut Boston’s lead to 2-1 with 6:59 remaining in the second period on a goal by Walman, who found room near the top of the left circle and fired a shot past Swayman.
