Sebastian Aho scored with 1:44 remaining in overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 victory against the Calgary Flames on Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.

Aho scored for the third game in a row, and the Hurricanes won for just the second time in their last five games.

Defenseman Jaccob Slavin scored Carolina’s first goal, and Pyotr Kochetkov finished with 15 saves.

Nazem Kadri recorded Calgary’s first goal in more than 171 minutes to tie the score on a third-period power play. That tally came 7:06 into the period. Calgary’s Dustin Wolf stopped 31 shots.

The Flames were coming off back-to-back shutout losses and had not scored since the third period of their 3-1 win over the host Washington Capitals on Tuesday.

Aho’s goal came as the Hurricanes had an extended sequence in the Calgary zone. It was his fifth overtime winner of the season.

The Flames have lost three consecutive games, dropping to 1-2-1 in a road trip that has one more stop. Their 16 shots on goal matched their lowest total of the season.

The Hurricanes didn’t cash in on earlier opportunities.

Calgary’s Blake Coleman was sent to the box for a four-minute minor for high sticking with less than five minutes remaining. The Hurricanes didn’t convert against the team that ranks 28th in the league in penalty killing.

Slavin scored with 35 seconds remaining in the second period to open the scoring. His sixth goal of the season match his total from 2023-24. He is two shy of his career mark.

Kadri has scored three goals in his last six games.

The Hurricanes recorded the game’s first 12 shots on goal. The first period ended with Carolina with a 12-1 advantage in that category.

Calgary’s Kevin Bahl exited with an injury with 35 seconds left in regulation. He was struck in the head at close range on a shot from Slavin.
