Sebastian Aho scored 1:14 into overtime Saturday night for the visiting Carolina Hurricanes, who overcame a three-goal deficit to stun the New York Islanders 4-3 in Elmont, N.Y.

Aho took a pass from Martin Necas, swooped into the left faceoff circle, and fired a shot beneath the legs of Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin.

Jalen Chatfield began the comeback from a 3-0 deficit by scoring 8:18 into the second for the Hurricanes, who tied the score with third-period goals from Dmitry Orlov and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

Goalie Antti Raanta made 22 saves as the Hurricanes won for the fourth time in five games (4-1-0).

Noah Dobson scored in the first, and Simon Holmstrom and Mathew Barzal scored early in the second for the Islanders, who have collected a point in five straight games (3-0-2) but squandered a multi-goal lead for the second time in that span. The Detroit Red Wings spotted New York the first two goals in a 4-3 overtime win on Monday.

Sorokin recorded 43 saves.

Dobson opened the scoring with a 4-on-4 goal with 2:20 left in the first when he deked Seth Jarvis, swooped into the slot and buried the backhand.

Holmstrom capped a 2-on-1 short-handed rush with Jean-Gabriel Pageau by scoring 4:11 into the second.

Barzal capped an end-to-end rush to extend the Islanders’ lead to 3-0 at the 7:46 mark when he swapped the puck with Bo Horvat before shuffling and firing a shot over Raanta’s glove.

The Hurricanes answered just 32 seconds later, when Chatfield’s shot from the blue line sailed past Sorokin as he was screened by five players, including teammate Scott Mayfield and Carolina right winger Jesper Fast as they tussled for position in front of the goalie.

Carolina tied the score with two goals in a span of 3:08 late in the third. Svechnikov sent a drop pass to Kotkaniemi, who immediately dished to Orlov before his shot glanced off the stick of Aho as he battled for position with Jarvis in front of Sorokin with 7:41 left.

Svechnikov caught up to a puck behind the Islanders’ net and dished to a wide-open Kotkaniemi, who scored from point-blank range as a power play expired with 4:34 remaining.
