The New York Rangers reportedly are working on a lucrative, long-term extension for forward Alexis Lafreniere.

The deal is in the range of eight years at more than $8 million per year, according to a DailyFaceoff.com report.

Lafreniere, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday, opened the season with a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s 6-0 win at Pittsburgh.

Drafted No. 1 overall by the Rangers in 2020, Lafreniere has recorded 150 points (76 goals, 74 assists) in 299 games since making his debut in January 2021.

He signed a two-year, $4.65 million contract in August 2023 and is set to become a restricted free agent after this season.
