Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin was fined $5,000 by the NHL on Wednesday for cross-checking Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the league’s collective bargaining agreement.

Larkin was assessed a cross-checking penalty and a game misconduct after hitting Oshie in the face with 7:17 remaining in the first period on Tuesday. The Red Wings scored a short-handed goal to offset Tom Wilson’s power-play tally in a 3-1 victory over the Capitals in Washington, D.C.

Larkin, 26, has team-leading totals in goals (22), assists (34) and points (56) in 55 games this season.

The Michigan native has 414 points (169 goals, 245 assists) in 559 career games since being selected by the Red Wings with the 15th overall pick of the 2014 NHL Draft.
