The NHL postponed Wednesday night’s contest between the Seattle Kraken and Jets at Winnipeg due to a major spring blizzard set to hit the province of Manitoba.

The game has been rescheduled for May 1.

“The decision to postpone the game at this time was made in order to minimize the potential disruption to the regular-season schedule in the event the severe weather that is expected to hit the Winnipeg area were not only to force cancellation of tomorrow night’s game, but also prevents timely and necessary post-game travel, including, specifically, the Jets’ ability to travel for their game in Florida on Friday, April 15,” the league said in a statement on Tuesday.

Western Manitoba is expected to receive 12-19 inches of snow beginning early Wednesday morning and lasting through Friday.

The Kraken (23-43-6, 52 points) have been eliminated from postseason consideration, while the Jets (35-28-11, 81 points) are five points out of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference entering play on Tuesday.

The Kraken play at Calgary on Tuesday night and will be off until Saturday’s game against the visiting New Jersey Devils.
