Alexander Kerfoot had a goal and an assist, and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the visiting Ottawa Senators 3-1 Saturday night.
Wayne Simmonds and Michael Bunting also scored for the Maple Leafs, who won for the second time in three games to open the season.
Josh Norris scored for the Senators, who defeated the Maple Leafs in their season opener on Thursday.
Jack Campbell made 20 saves for Toronto.
Anton Forsberg stopped 26 shots for Ottawa.
Toronto scored twice in the first period.
Simmonds tipped in a pass from the left circle by Rasmus Sandin at 2:12. Travis Dermott also earned an assist.
Kerfoot scored on a wrist shot from the slot at 8:06, converting William Nylander’s pass.
Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle fought off a Toronto defenseman before flipping a backhand shot off a goal post at 13:04.
Toronto had an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal after one period.
Toronto’s Morgan Rielly hit a goal post on a wrist shot at 3:39 of the second period on a pass from Jason Spezza. Forsberg made a brilliant save on a backhand shot from in front of the goal by John Tavares at 7:19.
The Senators survived a 5-on-3 Toronto power play for 66 seconds near the middle of the second period.
Norris scored from just below the right circle at 17:42 of the second on a power play with Nick Ritchie off for crosschecking. Drake Batherson and Tyler Ennis earned assists.
The puck went into the Toronto goal off Batherson’s skate two minutes later, but a video review determined that the play was offside.
Toronto led 23-16 in shots on goal after two periods.
Bunting scored at 7:57 of the third period, finishing a two-on-one break with Kerfoot. Timothy Liljegren also had an assist.
Forsberg was removed for an extra attacker at 17:12 of the third.
With No. 2 goaltender Petr Mrazek (groin) unavailable, Toronto signed Alexander Bishop of the University of Toronto to an amateur tryout deal to be Campbell’s backup Saturday.
Toronto defenseman Justin Holl (illness) did not play.
