Forward Jake Guentzel made his Carolina debut on Tuesday night in the Hurricanes’ 1-0 loss to the New York Rangers in Raleigh, N.C.

Guentzel saw 15:12 of ice time and had one shot on goal.

Guentzel was acquired in a trade with the Penguins on Thursday. The 29-year-old hadn’t played since Feb. 14 due to a shoulder injury, but he had 52 points (20 goals, 32 assists) in 50 games for Pittsburgh this season.

Carolina also received defenseman Ty Smith in the deal from Pittsburgh, which received forward Michael Bunting, a pair of prospects and 2024 first- and fifth-round conditional draft picks and the rights to forward Cruz Lucius.

With the defeat, the second-place Hurricanes fell six points behind the first-place Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.
