Brayden Schenn had two goals and an assist and Jake Neighbours scored twice to lead the St. Louis Blues past the visiting Buffalo Sabres 6-4 on Thursday.
Kevin Hayes had a goal and an assist, Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich had two assists, and Brandon Saad also scored for the Blues, who won for the fourth time in six games.
The Sabres outshot the Blues 45-20, but St. Louis goaltender Jordan Binnington made 41 saves.
Rasmus Dahlin, Peyton Krebs and Zach Benson had a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who lost for the sixth time in nine games. JJ Peterka also scored, Dylan Cozens had two assists and Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen allowed the six goals.
The Blues struck first when Saad scored off Oskar Sundqvist’s faceoff win.
Schenn made it 2-0 less than four minutes later with a power-play goal – just the seventh scored by the Blues this season. Torey Krug set up Schenn moving in through the left circle.
The Blues increased their lead to 3-0 when Nick Leddy fired a slap shot on goal and Neighbours converted the rebound.
Buffalo cut its deficit to 3-1 on Dahlin’s one-time blast from the right circle off Kyle Okposo’s pass.
The Sabres stepped up their pressure in the second period. Benson pulled them within a goal by scoring off Cozens’ faceoff win.
Krebs tied the game 3-3. Dahlin hammered a shot on goal and Krebs drove the net for the rebound.
After a Blues timeout, Hayes put the Blues up 4-3 by tapping in Kyrou’s pass to him at the left post. Just 24 seconds later, Kyrou cut across the ice and set up Schenn’s second goal with a deft drop pass into the slot.
Neighbours made it 6-3 at 4:38 of the third period by finishing off a 2-on-0 break with Buchnevich.
With Lukkonen off the ice for an extra attacker, Peterka scored to cut the deficit to 6-4 at 16:42.
