The Anaheim Ducks claimed veteran goaltender James Reimer off waivers from the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.

Reimer, 36, had signed a one-year deal for $1 million with the Sabres in free agency on July 2.

The Ducks needed a backup for Lukas Dostal with goalie John Gibson recovering from an emergency appendectomy last month.

Anaheim opens the 2024-25 regular season on the road Saturday against the San Jose Sharks.

Reimer spent the 2023-24 season with the Detroit Red Wings, going 11-8-2 with a .904 save percentage, a 3.11 goals-against average and two shutouts.

He owns a career record of 215-177-63 with a .910 save percentage, 2.88 GAA and 30 shutouts over 14 seasons with five NHL teams.
