Dougie Hamilton scored the overtime winner to lift the New Jersey Devils past the St. Louis Blues 3-2 Sunday in Newark, N.J.

Ty Smith and Dawson Mercer also scored for the Devils and Jack Hughes had two assists. Nico Daws made 19 saves to earn the victory.

Torey Krug and Jordan Kyrou scored and Vladimir Tarasenko had two assists for the Blues, who are winless (0-2-1) in their last three games.

Ville Husso stopped 30 of 33 shots while taking the loss.

The Devils buzzed the Blues early, building a 10-1 shots advantage in the first 7 1/2 minutes of the game.

New Jersey finally broke through 9:47 into the game. Smith stepped up from the defense, took a drop pass from Jesper Bratt, and beat Husso from the slot to put the Devils up 1-0.

Devils forward Pavel Zacha nearly scored with a turnaround shot from the slot with 3 minutes left in the period, but he hit the post. Blues forward Ivan Barbashev nearly tied the game, but he scored just after time expired in the first period.

The Devils outshot the Blues 8-1 in the second period and pushed their lead to 2-0 by scoring off the rush again. Hughes raced up the left wing on a 2-on-2 break and set up Mercer with a pinpoint cross-ice pass.

Krug put the Blues on the board 2:08 into the third period. Tarasenko rushed the puck up the right wing and located Krug moving up to fill the left wing lane.

The Blues scored another goal off the rush to tie the game 2-2 at the 5:44 mark. Tarasenko came down the middle to lead the attack and he fed Brayden Schenn on the left wing.

Schenn passed cross-ice to Kyrou, who moved up on the right wing for an open snap shot.

But Hamilton decided the game in overtime by stepping in behind Blues forward Robert Thomas to beat Husso one-on-one.
