The New Jersey Devils signed defenseman Luke Hughes to a three-year entry-level contract on Saturday.

Hughes, 19, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. His sophomore season at Michigan ended Thursday with a loss to Quinnipiac in the Frozen Four semifinals.

Hughes registered 48 points (10 goals, 38 assists) in 39 games this season for the Wolverines.

He is the younger brother of Devils center Jack Hughes, 21, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft. Older brother Quinn Hughes, 23, is a defenseman in his fifth season with the Vancouver Canucks. He was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Devils coach Lindy Ruff said Luke Hughes is practicing with the team but will not play Saturday night against the Boston Bruins.
