The New Jersey Devils acquired goaltender Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens on Friday in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
The draft pick can be upgraded to the second round should Allen play in 40 games in 2024-25 and the Devils qualify for the playoffs.
Montreal will retain 50 percent of Allen’s salary for this season as well as the 2024-25 campaign.
Allen, 33, posted a 6-12-3 record with a 3.65 goals-against average and .892 save percentage in 21 games this season. He is playing in the first season of a two-year, $7.7 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025.
A Stanley Cup winner with St. Louis in 2019, Allen owns a 189-162-41 record with 24 shutouts, a 2.75 GAA and .908 save percentage in 416 career games with the Blues (2012-20) and Canadiens.
Earlier Friday, the Devils traded forward Tyler Toffoli to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2024 third-round draft pick and 2025 second-round pick.
