The NHL handed Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller a $5,000 fine Friday for cross-checking Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Brannstrom.

Keller received a five-minute major and a game misconduct after hitting Brannstrom in the neck in the first period of Ottawa’s 5-3 win Thursday night.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.

Keller, 24, has a team-high 37 points (14 goals, 23 assists) and 31 penalty minutes through 41 games this season.

He has 293 points (110 goals, 183 assists) in 401 games since the Coyotes drafted him seventh overall in 2016.
