Jordan Kyrou scored twice as the St. Louis Blues rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the host Seattle Kraken 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in the NHL season opener for both teams.

Philip Broberg also tallied for the Blues, Justin Faulk added two assists and goaltender Jordan Binnington made 30 saves.

Vince Dunn and Eeli Tolvanen scored for the Kraken, who were playing their first game under new coach Dan Bylsma. Goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped 22 of 25 shots.

Seattle outshot St. Louis 32-25 but failed to put an attempt on net over the final 11:50 of regulation.

Trailing 2-0, the Blues scored three times in a span of 1:55 late in the second period to take the lead.

Kyrou got St. Louis on the board on the power play at 13:42, taking a stretch pass from Robert Thomas, skating down the right wing and putting a backhander between Grubauer’s pads.

The Blues tied it at 15:17 on Broberg’s wrist shot from just outside the left faceoff dot.

Kyrou put St. Louis ahead at 15:37 when the Blues stole the puck at their own blue line and Alexandre Texier fed Kyrou for a breakaway. He beat Grubauer with a forehander just inside the right post.

After a scoreless first period in which the Kraken outshot St. Louis 11-6, Seattle tallied twice in a 1:53 span early in the second.

Dunn opened the scoring just 27 seconds into the second after Jordan Eberle, who was named the Kraken captain before the game, stole the puck along the boards at center ice and fed Dunn, who skated over the blue line. Dunn’s initial shot was stopped by Binnington, but the defenseman pounced on the rebound and put it past the sprawling goaltender.

Tolvanen made it 2-0 at 2:20, tipping Ryker Evans’ shot from the left point past Binnington after the Kraken won a faceoff in the offensive zone.

The Blues played without forward Brandon Saad, who didn’t make the trip because of the pending birth of his third child.
