The St. Louis Blues cleared one goaltender to return to the ice and traded another on Wednesday.

Cleared was Jordan Binnington, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 2 and missed the past seven games. He is eligible to rejoin the team for practice on Thursday.

To make room on the roster, the Blues traded Jon Gillies to the New Jersey Devils for future considerations. The Blues signed Gillies, 27, to a one-year, two-way deal in response to Binnington’s diagnosis and a lower-body injury sustained by Ville Husso.

Gillies started Sunday in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks and made 36 saves. He became the fifth goalie used by the Blues this season. The game marked his return to the NHL; he last played in the league in the 2017-18 season with the Calgary Flames.

Binnington, 28, has appeared in 16 games (all starts) for the Blues this season and has an 8-5-3 record with a 2.80 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage.

In 141 career games (137 starts), all in St. Louis, Binnington’s record is 80-37-19 with a 2.47 GAA and .914 save percentage.

The Blues host the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
