Columbus Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier signed a six-year, $18 million contract extension on Wednesday.

Olivier, 28, was in line to be an unrestricted free agent after this season. The contract will run through the 2030-31 campaign.

He has 21 points (12 goals, nine assists) and 113 penalty minutes in 61 games this season.

“Mathieu Olivier has emerged as a key contributor on and off the ice thanks to his work ethic, dedication, leadership and other intangibles that are critical to a team’s success,” Blue Jackets president Don Waddell said. “Ensuring that Mathieu remains a Blue Jacket was a priority for us and we are ecstatic that he and his family will be part of our Blue Jackets family for many years.”

Undrafted to begin his NHL career, Olivier has 55 points (25 goals, 30 assists) and 352 penalty minutes in 229 career games with the Nashville Predators (2021-22) and Blue Jackets.
