Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira was released from a Chicago hospital on Wednesday, one day after he was removed from the ice on a stretcher.
Khaira was injured after receiving a shoulder-to-chest hit by New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba in the second period of the Blackhawks’ 6-2 loss at the United Center. Khaira’s head was down as he looked for the puck at his skates. No penalty was assessed on the play.
“Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira was released from Northwestern (Memorial) Hospital early this morning after extensive testing and returned home,” team physician Michael Terry said. “Despite the significant injury, his prognosis is excellent, and we expect a full recovery. At this point, it is too early to put a timeline on return to play.”
Khaira, 27, has scored two goals in 18 games this season. He has 65 points (26 goals, 39 assists) in 276 career games with the Edmonton Oilers (2015-21) and Blackhawks.
Also on Wednesday, Chicago recalled forwards Mike Hardman and Philipp Kurashev from Rockford of the American Hockey League. The Blackhawks assigned defensemen Wyatt Kalynuk and Ian Mitchell to the IceHogs in a corresponding move.
Hardman, 22, has two assists in 17 games this season with Chicago.
Kurashev, 22, has five assists in 19 games in 2021-22 with the Blackhawks.
