The Colorado Avalanche announced the hiring of Andrew Wilson as assistant general manager on Friday.

Wilson, 41, spent the last 18 years working for the National Hockey League, including the past three years as vice president of central registry. He was one of the main contacts for the 32 NHL teams for issues regarding collective bargaining agreement compliance, salary cap management, trades and contracts.

The Avalanche said Wilson will be working closely with general manager Chris MacFarland on all hockey-related matters, including those pertaining to player contract negotiations, salary cap management and the CBA.

MacFarland, who has been the GM since July 2022, was the assistant GM from 2015-22. The other current assistant GM, Kevin McDonald, primarily works with the Avalanche’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Colorado Eagles, as its general manger.
