The Washington Football Team announced the signing Friday of left tackle Charles Leno Jr. to a three-year extension through the 2024 season.
Multiple outlets reported earlier this week that the deal is worth $37.5 million, a big payday for a player who came to the nation’s capital on a one-year, $5 million contract in free agency last May.
Leno, 30, has started 109 consecutive games. He has played every offensive snap in 15 of his 16 starts this season, and his 1,062 snaps are a team high heading into Sunday’s finale against the New York Giants.
“It’s been great to have a guy that lines up at left tackle and does his job and does above that,” WFT offensive coordinator Scott Turner told the team’s website. “I mean, again, he’s been really doing a nice job of moving guys into the run game.”
Leno hasn’t missed a game since his rookie season in 2014 with the Chicago Bears, who drafted him in the seventh round. The 2018 Pro Bowl selection played in 102 games and made 93 consecutive starts for Chicago from 2014-20 before being released on May 3, 2021.
