Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones is considered week-to-week due to a hip injury, coach Kevin O’Connell said on Tuesday.

Jones sustained the injury in the first half of the Vikings’ 23-17 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday in London.

The Vikings have a bye week before hosting the Detroit Lions in a key NFC Central clash on Oct. 20.

“Aaron Jones continues to be evaluated,” O’Connell said. “All the early information that we’ve got so far — it looks like we’ve avoided a long-term injury. I’d classify him as really week-to-week at this point. He’ll get treatment throughout this week and I’ll give you guys an update where he’s at next week as we kinda hopefully work him back in, getting involved in practice and leading into whether we’ll have him versus the Lions.”

Jones gained 29 yards on seven carries and added one catch for 24 yards before exiting against the Jets. He also left the Vikings’ Week 2 win against the San Francisco 49ers because of a hip injury.

The 29-year-old has 517 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) in his first year with Minnesota (5-0).

Jones spent his first seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers and made his lone Pro Bowl in 2020. He totaled 8,016 yards from scrimmage with 63 touchdowns (45 rushing, 18 receiving) over 97 games (85 starts) for Green Bay.
