Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is having an MRI on his ankle, NFL Network reported Monday, an injury he says happened on a now-banned hip-drop tackle in Sunday night’s win over the Chicago Bears.
No flag was thrown on the play.
Mixon was injured in the third quarter after a tackle by Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards. Mixon returned but ran the ball just once more on seven snaps after returning later in the half.
“The NFL and NFLPA made it a rule and an emphasis for a reason. Time to put your money where your mouth is,” Mixon posted to X early Monday.

Mixon finished with 25 yards rushing on nine carries and caught three passes for 25 yards.
“Joe got rolled up. The guy’s weight definitely came down on his ankle. Didn’t look good from my view,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said after the game. “We’ll evaluate Joe throughout the week. Hopefully he’s OK. Have to see the film and see if it was really a hip-drop tackle.”
Mixon has 184 yards rushing through two games and a touchdown. He also has six catches for 44 yards.
