The New Orleans Saints acquired defensive tackle John Ridgeway III from the Washington Commanders in a trade Wednesday. As part of the deal, the Commanders included a 2025 seventh-round pick, receiving a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange.

A former fifth-round draft selection by the Dallas Cowboys in 2022, Ridgeway has seen action in a total of 32 games with six starts over two seasons in Washington.

In total, Ridgeway, 25, saw the field on 31 percent of defensive snaps in 2022 and 2023, racking up 55 total tackles and a forced fumble.

He is expected to get more of an opportunity to play in New Orleans.

Per Commanders general manager Adam Peters, the Arkansas product attracted trade interest in the wake of his preseason performance against the New England Patriots on Sunday, in which he had three tackles, two for losses.
