Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, cut two weeks ago by the Kansas City Chiefs, is set to join the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad, multiple media outlets reported on Monday.

The 25-year-old former first-round pick split his previous three NFL seasons between the New York Giants and the Chiefs but never established himself as a regular target for either club.

The Giants chose Toney 20th overall in the 2021 draft out of Florida. Between the 2021 and 2022 seasons, he appeared in 12 games for New York, starting five times and compiling 41 catches for 420 yards and no touchdowns.

He was dealt to the Chiefs in October 2022 for third- and sixth-round picks in the 2023 draft. With Kansas City, Toney logged 41 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 20 games (five starts).

Toney was a major factor for the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII in February 2023 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He grabbed a 5-yard touchdown pass that lifted Kansas City to the lead early in the fourth quarter. Soon after, he set a Super Bowl record by returning a punt 65 yards to the Eagles 5-yard line. The Chiefs ended up winning 38-35.

In 2023, Toney was plagued by dropped passes and committed a crucial offside penalty in a late-season loss to the Buffalo Bills — the infraction wiping out what would have been his touchdown off a lateral from Travis Kelce.

The Chiefs held Toney out of their final seven games, including their Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
