Dallas police reportedly want to question Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph about a fatal shooting last month.

ESPN reported that the team has encouraged Joseph, a second-round draft pick in 2021, to tell authorities what he knows about a March 18 altercation that led to the death of Cameron Ray, 20.

The team issued the following statement on Friday:

“The Dallas Cowboys are aware of the tragic incident that occurred in Dallas on March 18. First and foremost, our hearts go out to Mr. Ray’s family and loved ones,” the statement read. “The organization is aware of Kelvin Joseph’s possible connection to this incident. We are in contact with Dallas law enforcement and have alerted the NFL office. We have no further comment at this time.”

Video footage, obtained by KDFW-TV of the incident in the city’s Lower Greenville section, shows one of the men involved wearing a YKDV necklace.

Joseph, 21, goes by the rap name “YKDV Bossman Fat,” per the reports.

Joseph’s attorney, Barry Sorrels, told The Dallas Morning News on Thursday that Joseph was at the scene but committed no crimes.

“Kelvin Joseph did not shoot Cameron Ray,” Barry Sorrels, Joseph’s attorney, said. “Mr. Ray’s death is a tragedy, and Kelvin extends his deepest condolences for the family’s loss. On the night of March 17, Kelvin was unarmed and was not looking for violence. He found himself in a situation that escalated without his knowledge or consent.

“Along with condolences to the Ray family, Kelvin apologizes to the Dallas community for being anywhere near this type of incident. The investigation is ongoing, and we intend to respect the process.”

Joseph played college football at LSU (2018) and Kentucky (2020) before being selected with the 44th overall pick.

He appeared in 10 games (two starts) for the Cowboys last season, recording 16 tackles, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery.
