Offensive tackle Jared Veldheer came out of retirement to sign with the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad on Monday.

Veldheer, 36, worked out with the Colts on Friday. The signing is insurance against the injury sustained by right tackle Braden Smith, who missed Sunday’s game.

In a corresponding move, the Colts released safety Brandon Wilson from the practice squad.

Veldheer played one game with Indianapolis — the season finale — during his final season in 2020 and also started in their postseason game.

He played in 121 games (114 starts) from 2012-20 with five teams, including the then-Oakland Raiders (2010-13), who selected him in the third round of the 2010 draft.
