Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce became the quickest tight end to reach 10,000 career receiving yards, reaching the mark in his 140th career game on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

Kelce caught a 37-yard pass in the first quarter to achieve the milestone. He is just the fifth tight end to reach 10,000 yards. Kelce’s career total now sits at 10,045.

Tony Gonzalez is the all-time leader among tight ends with 15,127 yards, followed by Jason Witten (13,046), Antonio Gates (11,841) and Shannon Sharpe (10,060). Gonzalez (177 games) was the previous fastest to reach 10,000.

“Everybody has kind of been talking about me getting those stats at some point this year, so it was on everybody’s radar,” Kelce said after Kansas City posted a 34-28 win. “But to come up here and get a win and be a part of the crowd that is the 10,000 crew — Gates, Witten, Gonzalez, Shannon Sharpe (the) Bronco himself. …

“Obviously, all those guys, that’s unbelievable company to be in. I’ve been very fortunate that I’ve had the coaches and the players around me to be able to have this much success in the NFL as I’ve had.”

Kelce, 33, finished the day with 1,039 receiving yards this season and has strung together seven consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns. No other NFL tight end has more than four total 1,000-yard seasons in their career.

Kelce caught four passes for 71 yards on Sunday. He has 81 receptions and 12 scoring catches this season.
