Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert fractured his right index finger during Sunday’s 24-7 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Herbert left Sunday’s game in the second quarter after throwing an incomplete pass on fourth-and-2 at the Broncos 29-yard line. He was then seen shaking his right hand as he made his way to the sideline.

The Chargers initially ruled Herbert questionable to return before determining he couldn’t continue. Easton Stick entered the game at quarterback.

After the game, Los Angeles coach Brandon Staley shared the grim news that Herbert had broken his finger.

Herbert was just 9-of-17 passing for 96 yards and an interception before exiting. Stick went on to complete 13 of 24 passes for 179 yards.

Herbert was already playing with a fractured finger on his left hand. He suffered that injury back in Week 4 but has not missed a start.

With only four weeks left in the regular season, Herbert’s 2023 campaign could be over. The 25-year-old has thrown for 3,134 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven picks in 13 games this season.

Sunday’s loss dropped the Chargers to 5-8.
