Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett will miss the final two regular-season games after tests confirmed he has a sprained MCL and ACL.
Head coach Bruce Arians confirmed the extent of the knee injury on Monday and said the team is hopeful Barrett can return for the playoffs.
Barrett, 29, recorded his 10th sack of the season before getting hurt in Sunday’s 32-6 win over the host Carolina Panthers. He is just the fourth player in franchise history to post multiple seasons with double-digit sacks, joining Lee Roy Selmon, Warren Sapp and Simeon Rice.
The Bucs activated wide receiver Breshad Perriman off the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday. He has missed the past two games and will be needed with the team’s mounting injuries to its receiver corps. Perriman has four catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Along with Barrett, the defending Super Bowl champions are currently without running back Leonard Fournette, linebacker Lavonte David, wide receiver Mike Evans and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. Leading WR Chris Godwin is also done for the season with a torn ACL.
