The Cincinnati Bengals released backup quarterback AJ McCarron on Wednesday.

McCarron, 33, appeared in two games for the Bengals last season. He was signed to the active roster on Dec. 4 after spending most of the season on the team’s practice squad.

He attempted just five passes, completing four for 19 yards. He served as QB2 behind Jake Browning to close out the season after Joe Burrow sustained a season-ending wrist injury.

McCarron has appeared in 19 career games (four starts) for three teams, including the Bengals twice (2015-17; 2023). He’s thrown for 1,192 yards and six touchdowns. McCarron was a fifth-round pick by Cincinnati in 2014.
