San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday afternoon that cornerback Emmanuel Moseley suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season.

Moseley will require surgery to repair his left knee, which he hurt in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 37-15 victory against the host Carolina Panthers.

Moseley returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter prior to being injured later in the game.

Making matters worse for Moseley is that he is slated to be an unrestricted free agent after the season.

“I know he knows how I feel,” Shanahan told reporters of Moseley. “I’ve told him that before the injury. I know I feel the same if not stronger. It was a real sad, unfortunate thing that happened to him, he was playing his (expletive) off, too. He’s going to be very missed this year but I’m really, really hoping to have him back next year.”

Moseley, 26, started the first five games this season and registered 21 tackles, five pass breakups and the pick. He has 161 tackles and four interceptions in 45 games (33 starts) since joining the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

Also, star defensive end Nick Bosa missed the second half with a groin injury, and Shanahan described the injury on Monday as day-to-day.

“It’s bothering him today,” Shanahan said. “You always want to use caution, especially with Nick, on that type of stuff but I know if we practiced today, he couldn’t go. I’m hoping that he does better throughout this week but it wasn’t feeling great today.”

San Francisco safety Jimmie Ward sustained a broken hand in the game and will undergo surgery on Tuesday.

Kicker Robbie Gould (knee) is day-to-day, according to Shanahan.

The 49ers (3-2) are visiting the Atlanta Falcons (2-3) on Sunday and are using The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., as their practice base this week.
