Virginia Tech defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chris Marve was one of three staff members dismissed, coach Brent Pry announced Thursday.
Pry also said that the program parted ways with offensive line coach Ron Crook and senior director of strength and conditioning Dwight Galt IV.
“I appreciate the work Coach Marve, Coach Crook and Coach Galt have put into Virginia Tech football,” Pry said in a news release. “They are great men who, alongside their families, have poured into our university and our student-athletes.
“However, our on-field results have not met our standards. As head coach, it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to restore this program to its rightful place among college football’s best and deliver the success Hokie Nation deserves.”
Virginia Tech is 6-6 heading into an appearance in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Minnesota (7-5) on Jan. 3 in Charlotte, N.C.
The Hokies have allowed an average of 359.7 yards per game this season, ranking 58th nationally. The unit finished 20th at 316.8 in 2023.
Virginia Tech is tied for 44th in scoring defense at 22.8 points per game this season. Last season, the Hokies tied for 49th at 23.9.
Marve and Galt were in their third season with the Hokies. Crook was in his second season at Virginia Tech.
