Utah quarterback Cameron Rising will start the Utes’ game at Arizona State on Friday, Action Network reported Thursday.

Rising has not played since leaving Utah’s 23-12 home win over Baylor on Sept. 7 with an injury to his throwing hand. He reportedly suffered a dislocated finger and a cut on his right hand after running into a water cooler on a play where he was shoved out of bounds.

There were rumors that the seventh-year senior would miss the rest of the season, but Rising was able to practice this week in a limited capacity as the Utes return from a bye. Rising sat out as a game-time decision in Utah’s 23-10 home loss to Arizona on Sept. 28.

Freshman Isaac Wilson, the younger brother of Denver Broncos backup quarterback Zach Wilson, has gone 2-1 in three starts while filling in for Rising.

Wilson has thrown for 726 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions on 55.9 percent passing during that span for the Utes. He completed just 50 percent of his throws (20 of 40) for 280 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions against Arizona.

Rising, a three-time redshirt, has been at Utah since transferring from his only year at Texas in 2018. The 25-year-old was 18-of-29 for 346 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions over his first 1 1/2 games this season.

The 16th-ranked Utes (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) have won four straight against the Sun Devils (4-1, 1-1).
