Notre Dame wide receiver Jordan Faison suffered a sprained right ankle Saturday against Texas A&M and will miss one to two weeks, coach Marcus Freeman said Monday.

Faison made two catches for 12 yards and also took punt returning duties in the No. 7 Fighting Irish’s 23-13 road win over No. 20 Texas A&M.

Faison, who started his Notre Dame athletic career strictly as a lacrosse player, walked on to the football team last fall and began to see playing time at wide receiver. He finished 2023 with 19 catches for 322 yards and four touchdowns in seven games, with touchdown receptions in each of his final three games of the season.

He was the Sun Bowl MVP for hauling in five catches for 115 yards and a score in the Fighting Irish’s 40-8 win over Oregon State.

Notre Dame faces Northern Illinois on Saturday for its home opener before visiting Purdue on Sept. 14.
