Wake Forest looks to extend its string of convincing victories Tuesday night when Kennesaw State pays a visit to Winston-Salem, N.C.
“These guys can play a lot of different ways,” Demon Deacons coach Steve Forbes said of his team. “We’re playing so much faster. We’re doing it in a lot of different ways from a lot of different people.”
Wake Forest is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 2013-14 season. All of these games have come at home.
Kennesaw State (2-3) is 0-2 on the road after beginning the season with games at Iowa State and Creighton. Most recently, the Owls dropped a 97-78 decision at home to Belmont on Friday night, slipping to 0-3 against Division I competition.
“We have to get better from this,” Kennesaw State coach Amir Abdur-Rahim said. “It’s a long season. There are some positives we can take from this, but we have to get back to defending and rebounding the ball.”
Alondes Williams, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma, has led the Demon Deacons in scoring in three of the four games. He’s averaging 20.8 points per game this season.
He’s one of the reasons that Wake Forest has produced so much perimeter offense. The Demon Deacons racked up 16 baskets from 3-point range in Saturday’s 87-63 romp past North Carolina A&T.
“We shot the 3 at a high level and did a nice job of sharing the basketball,” Forbes said.
Daivien Williamson has posted a double-digit scoring total in each game for Wake Forest. He’s 12-for-12 on free throws this season.
Isaiah Mucius joined the mix as a key scorer with a season-high 16 points Saturday.
While Wake Forest has had success with scoring from beyond the arc, that area hasn’t been as much of a boost for Kennesaw State.
The Owls only have three players with more than three 3-pointers — and they all have eight. They are Chris Youngblood, who’s averaging a team-best 13.4 points per game, Spencer Rodgers and Kasen Jennings.
The Owls’ most notable result might be a 117-58 rout of Carver Bible for their most points since joining the Division I level.
This will be the first meeting between Kennesaw State and Wake Forest.
