Wake Forest is putting together a strong start to the season against some overmatched opponents.
But the Demon Deacons (3-0) have been efficient in many ways, and that has coach Steve Forbes’ attention.
They’ll look to continue that when North Carolina A&T (1-3) visits Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Wake Forest has made more than 50 percent of its shots from the field in all three games.
In Wednesday’s 95-59 rout of Charleston Southern, the Demon Deacons recorded assists on 20 of their 35 baskets.
“That’s pretty good considering that we’re a team that can score off the bounce,” Forbes said.
Daivien Williamson, who’s in his second season at Wake Forest after transferring from East Tennessee State, went above the 1,000-point mark for his career in the victory.
“I knew he was getting close to 1,000 because he played for me at East Tennessee State and I was tracking it,” Forbes said. “He got that quick because he didn’t have a full year last year, so he would’ve gotten it last year. … He deserves all the credit and scoring 1,000 points is a pretty good milestone for a career.”
Williamson has made 10 of 14 shots from 3-point range this season.
N.C. A&T will view this clash as an ideal opportunity.
“It’s always great to play Wake Forest,” Aggies coach Will Jones said. “Coach Forbes will have his guys ready to go. We are looking forward to a great game this weekend.”
The Aggies have had some tough luck. They were in a tight battle with UNC Greensboro in the opener before falling 57-53.
Then earlier this week, they led at South Florida until the Bulls tallied the final 10 points to pull out a 56-54 win.
N.C. A&T didn’t win until claiming its home opener Thursday night by beating Division III Greensboro College, 77-69.
Tyler Maye leads three Aggies in double figures with 13.8 points per game. Marcus Watson averages 11.8 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds.
Wake Forest holds a 6-0 record in the series. This will be the teams’ third meeting in four seasons.
