Wake Forest announced a long-term contract extension with 2021-22 Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year Steve Forbes on Monday.
Forbes is in the second year of a six-year deal that runs through 2026. The school did not announce the terms, but ESPN reported the extension will keep him with the Demon Deacons through the end of the decade.
“Twenty-two months ago, amidst the uncertainty of the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Coach Steve Forbes took on the task of rebuilding Wake Forest men’s basketball and returning the Demon Deacons to the level of competitive excellence that has been the hallmark of our program’s history,” athletic director John Currie said. “… I expect Coach Forbes will finish his career as a Demon Deacon and in the process hang multiple championship banners inside Joel Coliseum.”
Wake Forest (23-8, 13-7 ACC) defeated NC State 101-76 in last Wednesday’s regular-season finale and finished fifth in the ACC standings. ESPN predicts the Demon Deacons as a No. 10 seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
Wake Forest hasn’t been to the NCAA tourney since losing in the First Four in 2017.
Forbes, 56, guided East Tennessee State to a 130-43 record over five seasons from 2015-20 before being hired to replace Danny Manning at Wake Forest. He went 6-16 in his first season in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 2020-21.
