NCAAB: Vanderbilt manhandles Mississippi Valley State

Myles Stute scored 20 points and Scotty Pippen Jr. added 12 to help Vanderbilt blow out visiting Mississippi Valley State 75-36 in a nonconference game on Monday night in Nashville, Tenn.

Stute had six rebounds and hit 6 of 10 from 3-point range for the Commodores (5-1), who never trailed while earning their third straight victory.

Robert Carpenter sank just 2 of 21 shots, including 2 of 14 from behind the 3-point arc, but still managed to score a team-high 11 points for the Delta Devils (0-4). He grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, too.

Mississippi Valley State shot 20 percent (11 of 55) overall and 5 of 28 (17.9 percent) from long range.

Stute sank three 3-pointers during the first 3:51 of the second half to fuel a 9-0 spurt that gave Vanderbilt a 35-17 cushion.

Pippen added seven points as the Commodores opened the second half with a 21-1 run that built a 47-18 advantage with 12:16 to go.

The Delta Devils never got closer than 26 points after that.

Vanderbilt led by as many as 11 points en route to a 26-17 halftime lead.

Stute and Jordan Wright sank 3-pointers to give Vanderbilt a 6-0 lead 1:27 into the game.

Tyrin Lawrence scored four consecutive points to fuel a 7-0 run that gave Vanderbilt a 16-5 advantage at the 11:16 mark.

Vanderbilt got off to a slow shooting start, hitting just 32.1 percent of its first-half field-goal attempts and 3 of 12 attempts from long distance. After the break, the hosts sank 55.6 percent of their shots and 8 of 16 from beyond the arc. Mississippi Valley State shot 20 percent from the floor for the game, including 5 of 28 (17.9 percent) on 3-point attempts.

The Commodores are next in action Saturday when they visit SMU. The Delta Devils conclude their season-opening, six-game road trip with contests Wednesday at North Alabama and Saturday at Grand Canyon before playing their home opener on Dec. 9 vs. Nicholls State.
