NCAAB: UConn standout Liam McNeeley (ankle) slated for MRI exam

UConn standout freshman Liam McNeeley will undergo an MRI exam on Thursday after injuring his right ankle during Wednesday’s 81-68 road victory against DePaul on Wednesday.

Huskies coach Dan Hurley said McNeeley would not be available for Sunday’s game against visiting Providence.

In fact, Hurley fears it may be a while before McNeeley is back on the court.

“We’ll see what that looks like,” Hurley said after the win in Chicago. “Hopefully, it’s just a sprain. We don’t know much.”

McNeeley was injured in the second half in a collision with Layden Blocker of DePaul. He needed to he helped off the floor.

McNeeley had nine points and six rebounds in 25 minutes before exiting for No. 11 UConn (11-3, 3-0 Big East).

A big-time recruit from the state of Texas, McNeeley ranks second on the squad in scoring (13.6) and rebounding (5.8) for the two-time defending national champions.
